In this 12 week class, we will be practicing the most basic elements of Adobe Photoshop! We will be manipulating photos and learning the huge range of what Photoshop can do! No prior knowledge is needed for this course.

Projects

1 hour per week. Students will work on projects in Photoshop right along with me during class. No homework will be given, unless requested.

Grading

Students will be receiving live critique from me every class as we share our screens and talk about our projects.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11

Beginner Level

Students will be editing along with me as we learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop! 

I will be sharing my screen and allowing students to see each key click as I show them the basic tools and functions of the program. Each photo that we use will be provided by me as we edit and change elements of photos and designs.

Weeks 1-3 will be learning the interface and basic tools of the program

Week 4 will be focused on Layers and the different layer types and blending modes

Week 5 will be focused on Shapes- how to build and manipulate them

Week 6 will be focused on Text and all the things you can do with it

Week 7 will be focused on Masking- what it means and how to make it work

Week 8 will be Color, Contrast, and Hue Adjustments

Week 9 will be Filters, Content Aware and Healing Tools, as well as Selection Tools

Weeks 10-12 will be entirely focused on final projects and putting all of these elements together. Each student will complete their own collage showcasing everything they have learned, and presenting it to the class. I will be there for assistance and critique as needed.

Other Details

Parental Guidance

Scary or violent imagery will not be available or acceptable in this class. I will be providing the images for students to manipulate throughout the class to ensure that they are appropriate for all ages. Adobe Photoshop will be required for this course. There are other, Photoshop-like programs that students may have, but I will not be using other programs during this class. The link to Photoshop is below, and they offer different subscription plans for parents to choose from. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Pre-Requisites

No prior knowledge is needed for this course.

Supply List

Students will need access to a computer with Adobe Photoshop. No other supplies are required! I will be providing appropriate photos to manipulate throughout the class.
