In this course for intermediate Photoshop (or FREE Photopea) users, learners will refine their photo editing, make crazy collages, and learn about graphic design with like-minded digital artists. Photoshop is the archetypal digital art and graphic design program and remains one of the best photo editing programs-- and now you can use a free version, Photopea.com! ⭐New to Outschool? Message me before you enroll!!!⭐ My goal is to create a fun, creative learning environment where students can comfortably learn about Photoshop, bring their imagination to life, and share their digital art with one another. PRE-REQUISITE: Students should know the basics of Photoshop before registering for this class. Please check with your student to make sure they know how to: * use Photoshop selection tools, cut, paste, & layers * use basic Photoshop tools: zoom, brushes, etc. * use Zoom to share their screen, give permission for the teacher to control the screen remotely, mute/unmute. * search for, download and upload files, post to Outschool's class log-in page/ classroom. *** If your learner is not comfortable with the above or is new to Photoshop, register for... → Photoshop 101 (ages 7-12) for NEW computer users https://outschool.com/classes/photoshop-101-yB8KzLOv?usid=xT93q5Wy&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link → Photoshop Boot CAMP (ages 10-15) for students who can comfortably use a computer, new to Photoshop https://outschool.com/classes/photoshop-boot-camp-tT4K4lNr?usid=xT93q5Wy&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link Class structure: Students must have already downloaded the photos and know which folder they were downloaded to, before class begins. Each class will begin with an opportunity to share student work, and then a teacher demonstration of how to use some new Photoshop tools. Each day of the camp, students will make a new creative project, independently. Day 1: Vacation Bloopers In this review of cut-and-paste Photoshop collage, students can re-imagine their best vacations photobombed by the Loch Ness monster or beach-side moments ruined by a tidal wave. Day 2: Unusual Pets Pushing collage skills to the extreme, students will Photoshop a typical pet acting in a very usual way or Photoshop a person adopting a very unusual animal for a pet. For example, a group of baby chicks may dye their feathers like excited teens dressing for a rock concert, or you neighbor might adopt a pet Rhinoceros. Day 3: Middle Earth 2022 What would the main characters from your favorite fantasy story be like if they lived in your town? Students will invent an imaginary fantasy character or creature and chop them into a realistic, contemporary setting. For example, Photoshop into a chess tournament the creature you believe would be the best opponent: a griffin, sphinx, or a dragon? Day 4: What Lies Beneath Creating beauty or surprise, these images will show what happens above and below ground (or below water.) Day 5: The Invisible Man Students will master the clone stamp tool, spot healing, and healing brushes to "erase" a person out of a photo, creating an "invisible" man. #creative NOTE: It is easier for students to share what they are doing and get help if Photoshop or Photopea is being used on the same computer running Zoom. Please check your device to make sure that Zoom's screensharing permissions are enabled.

I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. I taught digital art as a public high school teacher and as an adjunct university professor; now I enjoy teaching digital art to students online. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. I've been teaching for 20+ years and running my own piano studio for 10+ years. There's a special place in my heart for creative works and the artists that make them, especially fantasy stories and narrative artworks, comics and graphic novels.
