In this easy introduction to the best digital art software ever-- Photoshop &/or FREE Photopea-- I show beginners how to use this powerful art tool to make amazing art! ⭐New to Outschool? Message me before you enroll!!!⭐ ⭐ Get $10 off your first class with coupon code BFAMANEW10 until Jun 21, 2025. Enter the coupon code at checkout. ⭐ Mastering Adobe Photoshop takes a combination of technical and artistic skills, so this a great class for learners that have just started learning to use a computer and are interested in making art. My goal is to create a fun, creative learning environment where students can comfortably learn about Photoshop (or the free version Photopea), bring their imagination to life, and share their digital art with one another. It is easier for students to share what they are doing and get help if Photoshop (or Photopea) is being used on the same computer running Zoom. Please check your device to make sure that Zoom's screensharing permissions are enabled. Class structure: Students will be provided a set of photos to edit in the classroom log-in page. Each class will begin with a demonstration of how to download the necessary photos from the Outschool classroom and open the files in Photoshop. (Students with a little more experience may substitute their own photos; these students must have already downloaded the photos and know how to locate them on the computer before class begins.) Then there will be a demonstration on how to use the tools necessary to complete the day's project. Each class will culminate in each student completing a creative project, independently, with assistance from the teacher as necessary. Class will end with a demonstration of how to save the project with layers in tact in a *.PSD file and in a sharable *.JPG file, and how to post the *.JPG into the Outschool classroom. With each topic listed below, I will teach learners how to use the tools necessary to complete the project, usually but not limited to: selection tools, paint brush, eraser, clone stamp and healing brushes, cut/ copy/ paste/ transform, image color adjustment, layers and layer properties, beizer curves, and animation techniques. Supply List
Materials Needed 💻 Computer or Laptop (Photoshop doesn't work on Chromebook.) 💻 Photoshop or FREE version, Photopea.com 💡 If you have a good internet connection, you can use the free, online Photopea software, which works just like Photoshop, even on a Chromebook. You can find it here: https://www.photopea.com/ 📷 Students will be provided images to use in the Outschool classroom before each class. If you wish to use your own photos, have them ready before class begins. NOTE: ⛔ Do not use the iPad version of Photoshop for this class. It looks completely different and may confuse your learner. ⛔ Photoshop Elements is NOT the same as Photoshop.

I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. I taught digital art as a public high school teacher and as an adjunct university professor; now I enjoy teaching digital art to students online. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. I've been teaching for 20+ years and running my own piano studio for 10+ years. There's a special place in my heart for creative works and the artists that make them, especially fantasy stories and narrative artworks, comics and graphic novels.
