In this 4-week course, students will master photography fundamentals, including camera settings, exposure, composition, lens selection, depth of field, and more, building a strong foundation for capturing stunning images.

In the first class I like to get to know the students, find out what got them interested in photography, what type of photography they are interested in and what equipment they are using. We will also be going over photographic terminology so they are comfortable with the terms moving forward.

Introductions / Photography Terminology

In this lesson students will learn about F-stops, shutter speeds, and ISO settings. We will go in-depth about each and how they effect an image. We will also cover different camera exposure modes and other camera settings. Students will be given an exposure assignment.

The Exposure Triangle

This lesson is all about the glass. Students will learn about lens focal lengths, depth of field, and perspective. We will discuss composition, the "Rule of Thirds" and how using different focal lengths can dramatically change a scene. Students will be given an assignment on depth of field.

The Camera Eye: Lenses

In this final lesson students will learn how to use the light. Sunlight vs flash (or when to use both), sunny day vs overcast day, what time of day is best for pictures, and which direction is the light coming from. We'll talk about all the different ways light can change the feel of an image. The last assignment will be for the students to show how they used light to create a dramatic image.

In this 4 week class we will learn the basics of photography and complete some great Photography projects! Work on any camera you have to jump into the basics of planning, framing, making, and even editing your photos.
