Photography: From Great to Awesome With Manual Mode in 9 Weeks (Flex Class)
What's included
Class Experience
This is it. This is the chance, right now, to learn photography and start on the path to becoming the photographer you want to be. I've been a photography teacher for 18 years, and this is my absolute best content that I use in my classroom to get inspiring results. Former students include fashion photographers, landscape and art photographers, wedding and portrait photographers, and even just students who have learned to incorporate photography into a source of creativity and stress relief in their life. This Flex class is almost exactly like I teach this course in real life. Every week of the 9-week class, you will receive a new video from me introducing the week's content. Sometimes I'll also include PDF files with more information, "field guides" for when you're out taking photos, tons of example photographs and much more. This is similar to how I teach my students in real life, because after the weekly instruction is published, you're asked to go and actually TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS! Students learn by DOING, so go and DO! Students can start the course off using the automatic mode of their camera, or use an iPad or cell phone camera. However, by week four, students will need any DSLR or Mirrorless camera that allows the user to select "manual mode" and adjust the shutter, aperture and ISO. If you have questions or need help choosing a camera, I'm more than willing to help. This is a course rich in visual content, and I provide weekly feedback for all students. Feedback from both the instructor and other students is incredibly important and students will not only have the opportunity to view and comment on other work, they will be instructed how to do so in a positive and powerful way. Student interactivity is extremely important in this course. Students will be working together to give guided, positive, but helpful feedback on photographs on a weekly basis. Students will be discussing items we review in class in the classroom discussion board and will be asked to contribute to the discussion. During the portfolio development section of the course, students will be asked to work together to help each other select their absolute best photographs to include in each portfolio. This interactive segment will pair up student into “portfolio partners” in order to improve the quality of their final work to create the best presentation. Video feedback will be included, so each student will see and hear me look at the photographs from the week and discuss points of merit and points of possible improvement for each student and for the whole class. Each week students will receive their information, and they will always have a "call to action" that takes the core content and asks students to go out and APPLY what we are learning in the course. Students learn best by DOING, and this class format allows the most flexibility possible for students to learn the content on their own time and at their own pace while still being challenged to go out and take new photographs every week. These are the nine weeks, organized into "chapters." Each chapter builds on the content learned earlier. Chapter One: Storytelling with Light Chapter Two: Composition Chapter Three: Editing Chapter Four: Knowing Your Camera and Exposure Chapter Five: Shutter and Motion Chapter Six: Aperture and Depth of Field Chapter Seven: ISO Chapter Eight: Full Manual Mode and Challenges for Growth Chapter Nine: Developing a Portfolio This course will be amazing!
