Class Experience

In this 6 week flex class, we will work on multiple photography projects.

*-Please note that this is a flex class which means that there will not be any zoom meetings-*

On Mondays, New information, projects, and instructions will be posted in the classroom via video lessons from the teacher (Tamea). There will be a handout with an outline of the project and reminders of the information from the video I submit for students to view.

*Please note* since we will not have any live classes, we will use the Outschool classroom to post, reply directly, share videos, respond with messages, questions, answers, and critiques. As with any Outschool classroom, this will be heavily moderated by the teacher.

Student and teacher interaction: Throughout the 5 week class we will use Outschool Classroom to share our photos (Weeks 1-4 will each have a new and fun project using the topics and techniques introduced). Each student will turn in their photos by uploading their photos directly for everyone to see. Students will also have questions to answer in their projects and this can be done by posting in the classroom or by submitting a video to the class. (These question prompts will be outlined in the videos given out by Tamea each Monday). If at any point a student is struggling with their project, they are more than welcome to message Tamea, but they are also encouraged to post in the classroom via a message or a video. It is my goal to cultivate a community feel in the classroom. Students can gain experience by viewing other learner's work as well as learn from the answers given by the teacher. Students will be encouraged to turn in their projects throughout the week and I also ask that students to share their process, techniques, and possible struggles they had in making their photos.

Each Monday, Tamea will post a handout to help them with their project video, a video introducing and explaining the new terms and techniques for the week (including tutorials, examples, bloopers, and some photo inspiration), a video explaining and outlining the week's project with a sample of a completed project in the video.

Students will be encouraged to turn in their projects throughout the week and I also encourage students to share their process, techniques, and possible struggles they had in making their photos. I also encourage constructive criticism between students. These feedback segments can be submitted via video or comment (as will messages from Tamea).

Week 1:
*I will send out an introductory video lesson.
*I will review a bit of the camera terms and techniques, but I will jump into our first project as this is an advanced class, we will expect that students have a working knowledge of their cameras (questions are welcomed though of course!).
*We will be researching photographers that inspire us, and our assignment will help us to look at other photographers' work in a new way. This will be presented via written submission or video post in the Outschool platform.

Week 2:
*We will get feedback and answer questions about our projects after researching our chosen photographer from week 1.
*In week 2's project, we will work on how lighting impacts our photos. (The instructional video will be available to students on Monday morning)
*We will have photo examples in the instructional video, as well as the project outline video.

Week 3:
*We will venture into peer to peer critiques.
*In this week's instructional video presentation, I will present my photos in the class informational video and provide a bit of a self critique and invite the students to look at their own photos with a critical eye.
*We will each present a photo we have taken and we will invite our class members to critique the photo.  This project can be a mix of old and new work, but will focus on analytical views of our own and our peers' work.
*This project will be more about dissecting the process we have and how we can improve on our own work

Week 4:
*Students will receive their instructional videos, project videos, and their informational handouts on Monday.
*We will be working on a project this week that will bring all previous lessons together.
*As always, Tamea will be available throughout the week to answer questions, moderate student conversations and give feedback for any and all projects being turned in through the week.

Week 5:
*We will work on editing. This will be covered in the instructional videos, and handout for week 5. There are endless options for editing a photo and many people choose to jump into extreme edits and many prefer the more natural look.
*We will look at the options, some of the programs that are possible and why I use what I do to edit.
*We will use this information to work on a final project that will be turned in on week 6.

Week 6:
*We will hand in final projects and have a critique of our projects. While there will not be a new project on this week, we will be learning from our final projects. I will release a critique and feedback for each student in the classroom via videos.

Learning Goals

Students who consider themselves to be proficient in photography will be challenged and we will leave the class more confident and proficient photographers.

Parental Guidance
Each student will be submitting their own work in this class so I ask that all photos be free of violence or explicit content.
Supply List
For this class we will need a camera that can be used in manual mode. We will need an SLR camera or equivalent (digital or film are both fine as long as students have access to quick film development and scanning. I would highly suggest a DSLR camera). Home and family DSLR cameras are wonderful. Advanced Mirror-less cameras will also be absolutely fine. If you plan to purchase a DSLR but you would like tips, please feel free to message me about this. (I would suggest looking at https://www.bhphotovideo.com/ for some wonderful young photographer cameras both new and refurbished)

Hello there!
Who am I?!
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for more than 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography with your learner!

Thanks to wonderful teachers I have had in my life, I went from taking pictures and developing them in a dark room for fun, to taking pictures that were published around the world.

I welcome you to see my work at photobytamea.com. While we will focus on many kinds of photography in class, you can see samples of my own work here.

In my photography classes, I will use hands on activities and kind critiques to advance learning and confidence in taking pictures.

When I am not here, I am always with my cameras and take pictures even on my days off. My favorite photo adventures always include my puppy, Chaplin, who loves to tag along. She will be in some of my photo examples in classes. She's a cutie!

General Class Policies:

- Most important! My classroom is a safe and inclusive place! Learners are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to remove any student who treats other learners disrespectfully.
- If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I may contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to either transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
- Classes will begin on time, even if all learners have not yet arrived.
- If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom. This will be considered a Student no show.
- If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late to make up the missed time, or transfer learners to a new session.
-Please note: Outschool requires verification of each learner. This means that unless Outschool has verified your learner, I will require learners to turn on their live cameras for a beginning of class check in. If cameras are not working or learners are not comfortable with this, please contact Outschool help for verification before class begins. Learner's may be placed in the waiting room while they are resolving their camera issues. I will not offer transfers or refunds in the event that this policy is not followed. This is for the safety and security of learners on the platform.
