What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each week a new assignment will be given. Students will be able to turn in their own work as well as comment and give 'kind critiques' to each other.
Assessment
On week 5 we will turn in our final project and Tamea will provide and assessment, some constructive criticism and each student will leave with some great ideas for future projects.

Class Experience

In this 5 week flex class, we will work on multiple photography projects, critiques, discussion and more.

*-Please note that this is a flex class which means that there will not be any zoom meetings-*

On Mondays, New information, assignments, and instruction videos will be posted in the classroom by the teacher. There will be a handout with an outline of the project and reminders of the information from the videos I submit for students to view.

*Please note* since we will not have any live classes, we will use the Outschool classroom to post, reply directly, share videos, respond with messages, questions, answers, and critiques. As with any Outschool classroom, this will be heavily moderated by the teacher.

Student and teacher interaction: Throughout the 5 week class we will use Outschool Classroom to share our photos (Weeks 1-4 will each have a new and fun project using the topics and techniques introduced). Each student will turn in their photos by uploading their photos directly for everyone to see. Students will also have questions to answer in their projects and this can be done by posting in the classroom or by submitting a video to the class. (These question prompts will be outlined in the videos given out by Tamea each Monday). If at any point a student is struggling with their project, they are more than welcome to message Tamea, but they are also encouraged to post in the classroom via a message or a video. It is my goal to cultivate a community feel in the classroom. Students can gain experience by viewing other learner's work as well as learn from the answers given by the teacher. Students will be encouraged to turn in their projects throughout the week and I also ask that students to share their process, techniques, and possible struggles they had in making their photos.

*Each Monday, Tamea will post a handout to help them with their project, a video introducing and explaining the new terms and techniques for the week (including tutorials, examples, bloopers, and some photo inspiration), a video explaining and outlining the week's project with a sample of a completed project in the video.

Students will be encouraged to turn in their projects throughout the week and I also encourage students to share their process, techniques, and possible struggles they had in making their photos. We will each answer questions like "What was a challenge you faced in making your photos?" "How did you overcome those challenges?" Students turning in their photos can upload them to the classroom and answer their questions there. We will also be working as a community to answer questions for each other before we jump into critiques.

Week 1:
*I will send out an introductory lesson. This will be a great refresher for students already familiar with photography, its techniques, equipment possibilities, and general photography terms.
*We will also work a bit on our cameras. Since we will all be using cameras a bit more complicated than a smart phone, I will answer any questions about the controls and manual settings of the cameras specific to each student.
*I will also send out project one. This project will not only be a great challenge for the learners, but it will also help me to better understand their level of skill in photography. (This will be sent out via video lesson and a video project outline. It will of course also be accompanied by the weekly handout)

Week 2:
*Each student will receive feedback from their week 1 project.
*We will work on self portraits in project 2 (outlined in videos and handouts).
*Their introduction to this project will be examples, some guidelines, and the different kinds of photos and techniques to use for the assignment.
*We will of course get feedback and comments form learners and Tamea throughout the week.

Week 3:
*Each student will receive feedback from their week 2 project.
*The lesson videos as well as project video and hand out will be posted on Monday.
*We will work on local nature photography in our project.
*In their videos, I will give them some tips, pointers, mistakes to avoid, and samples to work from. We will be encouraged to work in our yards, a park, any outdoor location we have access to.

Week 4:
*Each student will receive feedback from their week 3 project.
*Learners will have an exciting grab bag of options!
*Will be given a list of possible project ideas and each student will pick their project and move forward with taking their photos. The week's videos and handout will outline these options and how to proceed.
*They will have feedback from the other students as well as Tamea and they will be able to use their new knowledge of photography to have a bit of a freestyle photo project.

Week 5:
*Each student will receive feedback from their week 4 project.
*Week 5 videos will be a bit different! Instead of introducing a new photography project we will be introduced to in depth critiques and how to move forward with constructive criticism specific to higher level art classes.
*We will share and critique our projects in peer to peer critiques.
*We will share challenges we may have faced, how we overcame those challenges, we will answer questions from the teacher, and receive a final assessment on the work.

Each week's project will expand on the previously learned material, so this will be considered our final project.

Learning Goals

.Students with a basic knowledge of their cameras and photography will learn to take photos with confidence in multiple different photographic circumstances. We will use videos, photographic examples, discussion and critiques to learn and grow as photographers.

Parental Guidance
Students will be making and presenting their photos, so I will ask that all photos be free of violence and/or explicit content.
Supply List
For this class we will need a camera that can be used in manual mode. We will need a DSLR camera, Mirrorless or a bridge camera with manual mode (digital or film are both fine as long as students have access to quick film development and scanning. I would highly suggest a DSLR or Mirrorless camera). Home and family DSLR cameras are wonderful. Advanced Mirror-less cameras will also be absolutely fine. If you plan to purchase a DSLR but you would like tips, please feel free to message me about this. (I would suggest looking at https://www.bhphotovideo.com/ for some wonderful beginning photographer cameras both new and refurbished) Please note, the class projects cannot be completed effectively without a manual use camera.

Hello there!
Who am I?!
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for more than 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography with your learner!

Thanks to wonderful teachers I have had in my life, I went from taking pictures and developing them in a dark room for fun, to taking pictures that were published around the world.

I welcome you to see my work at photobytamea.com. While we will focus on many kinds of photography in class, you can see samples of my own work here.

In my photography classes, I will use hands on activities and kind critiques to advance learning and confidence in taking pictures.

When I am not here, I am always with my cameras and take pictures even on my days off. My favorite photo adventures always include my puppy, Chaplin, who loves to tag along. She will be in some of my photo examples in classes. She's a cutie!

General Class Policies:

- Most important! My classroom is a safe and inclusive place! Learners are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to remove any student who treats other learners disrespectfully.
- If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I may contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to either transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
- Classes will begin on time, even if all learners have not yet arrived.
- If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom. This will be considered a Student no show.
- If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late to make up the missed time, or transfer learners to a new session.
-Please note: Outschool requires verification of each learner. This means that unless Outschool has verified your learner, I will require learners to turn on their live cameras for a beginning of class check in. If cameras are not working or learners are not comfortable with this, please contact Outschool help for verification before class begins. Learner's may be placed in the waiting room while they are resolving their camera issues. I will not offer transfers or refunds in the event that this policy is not followed. This is for the safety and security of learners on the platform.
