1-2 hours per week. Weeks 1-3 will each have instructional videos and an assignment for each student to complete. These videos will go over "What is photography?" "General Camera Use" "Composition" "Lighting" and "Working with your Subject"Assessment
Anytime a learner posts photos and tells me about their experience with making their photo(s), I will provide feedback (In the first 4 weeks of the class access. After that point the Self Paced class becomes entirely Self Paces). This will happen in the first month of the class. Each week I will check to see if there are any photos or questions and I will provide feedback. After the class has been available to the learner for one month, I will not be checking the classroom.Class Experience
In this 4 unti class, we will work on multiple photography projects. *-Please note that this is a self-paced which means that there will not be any scheduled zoom meetings-* We will focus on the basics of photography and throughout class we will work on building confidence in taking and presenting photographs. Weeks 1-3 will each include a project to be completed before the following Monday. This will ensure student critiques and feedback before moving on to the next week's project. In week 4 we will be turning in and gaining feedback on our final projects. Teacher information schedule: On Monday mornings (eastern time), New information, informational video, project video, and instructions will be posted in the the Outschool classroom via videos and handouts. There will be a handout with an outline of the project and reminders of the information from the video I submit. Videos will include project examples using my own photography as well as instructional lessons using cameras and illustrations/slides. I will have "office hours" Tuesday and Thursday to answer questions, provide encouragement, feedback, additional information, and moderate student discussions. I will always keep an eye on the classroom answer questions throughout the week. *Please note* since we will not have any live classes, we will use the Outschool classroom to post, reply directly, share videos, respond with messages, questions, answers, and critiques. As with any Outschool classroom, this will be heavily moderated by the teacher. Student and teacher interaction: Throughout the 4 week class we will use Outschool Classroom to share our photos (Weeks 1-3 will each have a new and fun project using the topics and techniques introduced). Each student will turn in their photos by uploading their photos directly for everyone to see. Students will also have questions to answer in their projects and this can be done by posting in the classroom or by submitting a video to the class. (These question prompts will be outlined in the videos given out by Tamea each Monday). If at any point a student is struggling with their project, they are more than welcome to message Tamea, but they are also encouraged to post in the classroom via a message or a video. It is my goal to cultivate a community feel in the classroom. Students can gain experience by viewing other learner's work as well as learn from the answers given by the teacher. Students will be encouraged to turn in their projects throughout the week and I also ask that students to share their process, techniques, and possible struggles they had in making their photos. Week 1: *I will send out an introductory lesson via a video and a handout for each student. *Introduction to cameras, and the equipment we will be using for this class. (In this class a smart phone will be enough to complete the assignments, but I always encourage the use of a DSLR camera when possible.) *I will also send out project one via video and a handout. (This project will both be a great intro project but will also assess each student's experience and strong points in their photography.) Week 2: *I will send out week two's instructional video on Monday morning *For week's two's project, we will work venturing outside to take some photos. *We will be working on natural light, positioning, safety, and more. *I will introduce the Rule of Thirds and when to break the rule (Let's learn the rules before we break them!), exposure, and focus. This will all be covered int he instructional video along with a project handout, and project video. Week 3: *We will work on taking photos of and directing a subject. *In our videos, we will learn some directions, some things to avoid and things to work on working on our final project assignments. Week 4: *This week will be a bit different. We will be turning in our final project and I will be sending out an additional package of videos giving personalized pointers, assessments and kind critiques of their photos learners have turned in in their final project. To close out the class, each student will have the mini project of picking a project by another student from the class and sharing why it inspired them and what they thought the project achieved. They will be able to use this feedback to venture out into more projects and (I hope!) into my intermediate and advanced photography classes.

Hello there!
Who am I?!
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for more than 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography with your learner!
Thanks to wonderful teachers I have had in my life, I went from taking pictures and developing them in a dark room for fun, to taking pictures that were published around the world.
I welcome you to see my work at photobytamea.com. While we will focus on many kinds of photography in class, you can see samples of my own work here.
In my photography classes, I will use hands on activities and kind critiques to advance learning and confidence in taking pictures.
When I am not here, I am always with my cameras and take pictures even on my days off. My favorite photo adventures always include my puppy, Chaplin, who loves to tag along. She will be in some of my photo examples in classes. She's a cutie!
General Class Policies:
- Most important! My classroom is a safe and inclusive place! Learners are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to remove any student who treats other learners disrespectfully.
- If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I may contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to either transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
- Classes will begin on time, even if all learners have not yet arrived.
- If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom. This will be considered a Student no show.
- If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late to make up the missed time, or transfer learners to a new session.
-Please note: Outschool requires verification of each learner. This means that unless Outschool has verified your learner, I will require learners to turn on their live cameras for a beginning of class check in. If cameras are not working or learners are not comfortable with this, please contact Outschool help for verification before class begins. Learner's may be placed in the waiting room while they are resolving their camera issues. I will not offer transfers or refunds in the event that this policy is not followed. This is for the safety and security of learners on the platform.
