Beginner Level
In this ongoing phonics/phonemic class, the students will practice using word parts to make new words. This activity will help the students increase their reading and writing vocabulary. Each class will focus on a new word part. The students will learn a poem/song to help them remember the word part. We will practice beginning letters and the sounds they make as well as letters that go together (bl, fr, th, dr, wh, thr). They will make and write the new words on their paper. They will step by step draw some of the word families. The final activity will be to read the words in context in sentences and/or leveled books. Week 1: an Week 2: et Week 3: ig Week 4: og Week 5: at Week 6: ake Week 7: eep Week 8: ee Week 9: ank Week 10: ub Week 11: ip Week 12: ot Week 13: ug Week 14: ad Week 15: ed Week 16: in ***After the lessons have ended, your child will be ready to move to the next reading level: Words are Fun~Vocabulary. I can transfer your child into that class.

Word family: -og Literacy: Frogs. Let's draw a frog on a log together. 30 mins online live lesson

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!
