Class Experience

Each week we will begin with a key word. Students will be guided to come up with words that rhyme with the key word. We will sound out the words and spell them. Students will print these words onto the paper provided. The paper may have an outline of a house in which to write down the words of the word family. Sometimes the outline picture may be different than a house, for example, if the key word is van, it may be in the shape of a van. We will work together to make a short story using our...

Students will learn to spell and read a new group of words each week. They will also be able to recognize word chunks that will help when decoding longer words.

Students will receive a copy of the group story we write using the word families. They can use this, as well as the hand-out,  to practice reading the words.

A hand out will be provided for each week's class. Students will need a pencil and eraser.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
