During Karen's fun, interactive small group reading class, we will practice phonics skills. Learners will read illustrated, high interest sentences and stories aloud together, and one at a time, with my assistance. We will read high-frequency word lists. Phonics skills include letter sounds, digraphs/trigraphs, word families, rhyming, rule breakers, decoding multisyllable words, and more. All activities will be teacher guided, using demonstration, flash cards and lesson slides that I will...
Students will learn phonics skills: letter sounds, digraphs/trigraphs, word families, rhyming, silent e rules, rule breakers, decoding multisyllable words, and more. We will learn Dolch sight words, fluency, picture clues and other comprehension strategies, basic language arts, computer skills, and social skills. Capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and spelling are covered in the context of learning to read and responding to stories.
I love empowering children by teaching them to read! Reading opens a whole new world to children. I have been teaching pre-reading and reading skills for over 20 years in a variety of home and school settings, including successful virtual reading classes. I have a collection of lesson plans and rich stories to delight any child while learning to read. There's nothing like the look of satisfaction on a young reader's face after sounding out a difficult word or reading a whole sentence independently for the very first time! I am eager to share those experiences with your child!
No materials required. Children are welcome to write words on paper or whiteboards as we learn, but it's not required.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
