US Grade 1 - 4
This is an introductory class to syllables. Syllables make up the foundation of the English language. Once a child can identify the 6 syllable types, the child's reading and spelling skills will improve. The student will be able to decode (read) and encode (spell) multi-syllabic words with ease. This overview will give students a mini lecture on each type of syllable with a chance to identify words within each pattern and try to think of their own. Students will learn about open, closed, silent e, vowel team, r-controlled, and consonant-le syllables. This class uses multi sensory techniques to help students remember the different syllable types. This course is aligned with Fundations and is helpful for struggling readers and spellers. It can also be beneficial for young children eager to improve their reading skills. Students should be able to read at an early 1st grade level to understand the material in this course.
