5 in-class hoursClass Experience
This class is intended to review letter sounds while teaching them to blend those sounds to form words. These skills are needed to build a solid foundation in preparation for reading. The review of the letter sounds will be during the first part of the class. We will review the sounds and determine if they are beginning or ending sounds as well. Every class will follow a similar outline. We will begin with a song on the short vowels. This will be the same song for every class. A solid understanding of the vowel sounds is necessary to read words. We will review the letter/sound pictures. This will move quickly as it is a review of letter sounds that the kiddos should know. They will also be listening for beginning (initial) versus ending sounds. We will watch a song about blending. We will associate pictures with words and then say their sounds to blend the words. Students will see a picture, say the name, say each letter sound and blend them together. This is important until students get used to blending sounds together on their own. We will end with the a song. The repetition is important for solidifying the information learned. Please note this class will run 2 days a week for 6 weeks during the school year, however during the summer it can run as a 4 week daily boot camp.
