Phonics - Reading, Spelling & Writing Digraphs: Sh, Th, Ch : FLEX

This class has a FLEX class schedule, meaning that this class will not meet for live sections. Instead it will "meet" through posts on the Outschool platform. Posts in the classroom will include pre-recorded lessons, announcements, assignments, and communication between the teacher and parent/learner. Depending on your learner's level/skills parent involvement in the class postings might be needed. 
Learners should be able to identify all letters/sounds and write each letter. The should be reading/sounding out short basic words. 

This class will help your learner understand what exactly is a digraph. We will focus on three of the most common 'sh', 'th' and 'ch'. 
I will introduce one diagraph a week with the last week being a review week of all three. We will learn words with the digraph at the beginning and also at the end of the word (thunder/bath).

Each digraph will have its own fun interactive 'story' to help your learner remember the sounds of the specific digraph and each digraph will also have an action trick. The action associates the sound with a specific movement.  Action tricks can be used to trigger the learner's memory when they are reading or writing these specific words, without giving them a verbal clue. Together will practice sounding out and writing words that contain the digraphs. I will also read a mentor text that focuses on the specific digraphs. 

This FLEX class will be scheduled over 4 weeks. Each video will be between 20-30 minutes in length. During the lessons, learners will follow along and sound out and spell words with me. I will ask questions and many do not even know I am not live ;)

Each week I will introduce a fun activity of the week that will incorporate the digraph that we learned that week. I will model the activity and then learners will get to complete the activity on their own after the video. Learners are encouraged to post their finished work to the classroom. This will let me see their progress respond with appropriate feedback. I try to respond through video, so young learners can view themselves. There will also be scavenger hunt each week.  Learners will be on the "hunt" for words that have that week's digraph. They can find the physical item, find a picture or even just share where they saw an item. Learners share these items to the classroom each week and Then other learners can see if they can find these items and post them too. It will bring a level of interaction between learners in a flex style class. Each week I will choose a winner(s) of the scavenger hunt!
