Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This class will introduce students to the sounds of letters, how to count syllables, and how to identify rhyming words. These early literacy skills will prepare young students for reading in the near future. The class will begin with greetings and the alphabet song. Next, I will teach students the sounds of letters A - Z with picture cues. Next, students will practice clapping out their names and other 1, 2, and 3 syllable words. Finally, we will enjoy some rhymes and practice identifying rhyming words together. The class will be interactive and allow all students a chance to participate and engage with one another. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham methods and will use various techniques throughout the class to help students build skills they can use in their every day reading and encounters with letters and words. Students will benefit from knowing the names of letters prior to class, but it is not required.
Learning Goals

Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!
