This program is appropriate for students with difficulty in word-level decoding, fluency, automatic word recognition, and spelling. Students will need to be able to identify all of the letters of the alphabet and know at least one sound for each letter before taking this course. Students will learn welded sounds, digraphs, bonus letters, and suffixes. Students will learn how to apply their newly discovered knowledge of these concepts to read words (CVC, CVCC) and full sentences. Students will also learn important high-frequency words (sight words) and vocabulary words during instruction. The students will learn how to apply fluency strategies while reading as well. Lastly, the students will practice their letter and sound knowledge through a variety of spelling related activities. I will teach the skills through the use of real-word and pseudo-word instruction. The use of pseudo-words are used to help reinforce the students' knowledge of the phonemes they have practiced. Pseudo-words will use English spelling patterns and rules to help students practice sound-symbol relationships. Students will learn how to tap sounds they hear and match them to letter sounds to create words. The lesson will incorporate sound cards, word cards, sound games, word games, sentence reading, and spelling tasks. Digital letter cards will be provided but will need to be individually cut out before the lesson. Spelling sheets will also be provided. Here is a class-by-class breakdown: Class 1/Week 1- Students will learn what a digraph is and they will be introduced to five common digraphs. Class 2/Week 2- Students will practice their knowledge of digraphs using pseudo-words. Class 3/Week 3- Students will learn what a bonus letter is and they will be introduced to four common bonus letters. Class 4/Week 4- Students will practice their knowledge of bonus letters using pseudo-words. Class 5/Week 5- Students will learn what a welded sound is and they will be introduced to three common welded sounds. Class 6/Week 6- Students will practice their knowledge of welded sounds using pseudo-words. Class 7/Week 7- Students will learn what a suffix is and they will be introduced to two suffixes that are used to pluralize CVC and CVCC words. Class 8/Week 8- Students will practice their knowledge of appropriate pluralization suffixes using pseudo-words. Please Note: The price that is listed is based on the time block for each lesson, the smaller class size, and the more individualized attention your child will receive. The lessons will also be modified on a weekly basis to reflect the individualized needs of your child. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
