Phonics FUNdamentals: Blend, Read, and Write CVC Words Through Word Families

In this weekly class, we will learn CVC words by doing fun, hands-on activities with a different short vowel word family each week. This is great for preschool & kindergarten learners who know the letter sounds. E-books included!

I have a Master's degree in Elementary Education with a Reading Specialist certification. I have privately tutored many students in reading over the years, including those with learning difficulties. Additionally, I homeschooled my children from preschool through 8th grade.
Learners will receive a book and worksheet(s) each week for extra practice. (These are optional.)
 1 file available upon enrollment
REQUIRED MATERIALS: — Please print page 1 of the "Phonics Boxes" document (link provided in welcome email). It would be preferable to print or mount it on cardstock to make it sturdier. (We will use it multiple times throughout class.) You could also place it in a sheet protector or dry erase pocket, such as this one: https://www.dollartree.com/teaching-tree-reusable-dry-erase-plastic-pockets/196807 — Something with which to write: — Markers/crayons/colored pencils and lined paper (whatever type your child uses) — If not using the magnetic wand/chips in the optional section below, your learner will need small objects to slide onto the "Phonics Boxes" paper. Examples: pennies, BINGO chips, plastic coins (such as those in the party favor section), checkers, poker chips, washers, paper clips, and so forth. OPTIONAL (BUT VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!): — Pop It fidget toy (any brand or color, with at least 3 bubbles in a straight line) — Magnet wand and magnet chips (I have also seen these at Hobby Lobby, as well as similar wands in sewing stores) http://www.schoolsupplystore.com/Magnetic-Wand-20-Magnetic-Counting-Chips-P90336.aspx
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Occasionally, we will be doing jumping, twirling, and other full body movements. Please ensure that your child has a safe space in which to move. If needed, push furniture out of the way to create an open space for movement. Please look for and remove any items which could potentially be trip hazards.

If there are other young children around below the age of 3, please be aware that some manipulatives (magnetic tokens, pennies, or other small items) can be choking hazards. You may consider substituting larger items such as checkers, toy coins, or poker chips.
All books, handouts, and worksheets are original, created by me expressly for this class. (Please do not make copies for other people, etc.)
