In this ongoing class, students will work on beginning reading skills focusing on CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words. This class will help new readers begin to identify patterns in the words they read.
Class experience
We will begin each class reviewing the letter sounds that we will be covering. Each week we will look at one CVC word family such as (-an) and build words using the patterns taught. We will cover CVC words using the vowels (a,e, i,o,u). My classes are structured in a manner where the students have fun while learning. Students will verbally blend, separate add or substitute individual sounds in simple consonant/vowel/consonant (CVC) words. Students will begin to recognize the patterns in these words to improve reading fluency.
I am a certified elementary school teacher and Reading Specialist. I have been teaching early childhood students for over 20 years.
Paper and writing materials are encouraged for practice. Your child can also use magnetic letters if they are more comfortable building their words that way. Weekly sheets may be sent home if necessary for games or activities that we may be doing during a session. They will be sent out before our class time.
