Class Experience

This is a one-time class out of a possible series of 8 class offerings on sight words, letter review and reading skills. Should you be interested in more of my phonics classes, please follow my itinerary of offered classes listed below.

Students should have some background in phonics and may be just learning new sight words, or perhaps need a refresher or reinforcement of skills. In this class, students will practice individual letter sounds and writing them. We will be introduced to new sight words, play a game and enjoy engaging activities while learning. We will use a book in class, displayed by me, to read basic sentences using the learned sight words. Students will be provided with learning material prior to class to help prepare for success and review at home!

Offered Classes in this Series are non-sequential, except for lesson 8 which has some review. They are all listed as one-time classes. Sign up when it is convenient for you!

Lesson 1: (“Monster Feelings” book), (sight words: I, am), (phonemes: /c/, /m/, /a/, /t/)
Lesson 2: (“Super Mouse” book), (sight words: I, can), (phonemes: /s/, /r/, /i/, /p/)
Lesson 3: (“I Am Made of Shapes” book), (sight words: am, made), (phonemes: /b/, /f/, /o/, /g/)
Lesson 4: (“My Pet Rock” book), (sight words: see, my), (phonemes: /h/, /j/, /u/, /l/)
Lesson 5: (“We Can” book), (sight words: we, can), (phonemes: /d/, /w/, /e/, /n/)

Lesson 8: (“Play Date” book), (sight words: came, to, play), (phoneme review!)

Things to Know:
It is helpful if your child brings a dry-erase board and marker/eraser for class. This is not necessary but we will spend time with writing letters and sight words, and "practice makes better!" as I always say :-)

You do not need to participate in these classes in order. You will see that the sight word “I” is repeated in the first two lessons for extra practice and recall, as well as the word “see.” We will learn many new sight words, touch on some blends and digraphs when reading from our books, and always incorporate tons of fun and engagement! My personal teaching style is relaxed, fun and a little goofy. However, as a Special Education teacher and momma of three children, I believe in staying focused on the tasks and goals of the class.

*Please note, I typically do not mute students during class. But out of respect for all learners, if a child’s environment is particularly distracting and/or continues to impede the learning process for anyone, I will mute any distractions. Thank you for understanding!

Prior to class, students will be provided with materials to help them feel successful in class.

Thank you for choosing me to work with your child and happy learning!
