This is one in a series of stand alone phonics lessons that will focus on blending sounds to read CVC words with specific vowel sounds. In this lesson we will practice reading real words and nonsense words with the short /a/ sound. (hat, cat man, fan, zak, kaj) Reading nonsense words allows the teacher to assess the student’s phonetic skill in blending. The teacher will model blending sounds and will incorporate magnetic letters, flash cards, and numerous other props to engage the learners....
The students will learn the sound for short /a/. They will blend sounds to read CVC words with the short /a/ sound.
The student should bring materials to draw a picture. A sheet of paper and a pencil will be fine. They will also need a hard surface to place the paper on while drawing. The student might also choose to bring a small white board with a dry-erase marker, if they prefer.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
