Students will strengthen their auditory recognition and deciphering skills for reading through writing and phonics activities. We will warm up with rhyming and sound recognition activities by identifying the beginning, middle and ending sounds within a word, then move to sounding out words and spelling them, and finally reading the words that we've been working on. Time will also be spent working with word banks, such as: bag, beg, big, bog, bug. There will be a focus on long and short vowel sounds and blended sounds such as ch, sh and th. Sight word and syllable and sound recognition will be strengthened through the length of this course.
