Description
Class Experience
In this ongoing class, each week we will learn or review a new phonics rule. The review lessons will take concepts that have been previously taught (in either my 1st grade phonics or previously in this class) and help solidify the learners' understanding before moving on. The skills taught in this class are typically taught in second grade but are now being offer to older learners who need support and reteaching at this level Each day we will focus on a phonics rule and/or syllable type,...
Students will learn syllable patterns, variant vowels, and prefixes to decode (read) words. Students will apply knowledge of syllable patterns, variant vowels, and prefixes to encode (write) words Students will sort words by different sounds and/or spellings. Students will play a game to practice reading and writing the new words.
I am a licensed K-12 special education teacher with over 25 years of experience. I have taught Pre-K - 5th grade reading and math skills to students from 3-15 for the last several years on Outschool with 100s of satisfied parents and learners.
Students will be given materials then can print and use at home for additional practice with these words. While you are actively enrolled in this class you will be given exclusive access to my class on RAZkids for additional reading practice. It is recommended that students log in each week to listen to and practice our skills.
Pencil Paper or whiteboard Weekly handouts (provided) Composition or spiral notebook for their word journal (Can start class without this but should have it keep their handout and word work)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be given login access to kidsa-z.com. I will create their profile which will only contain their first name. They can use the site to read books at their reading level, listen to books, and take reading quizzes. No personal data is collected for your learner account.
