Class Experience

I am no longer teaching this course. If you would like to take my new course following the same curriculum you can find it here. https://outschool.com/classes/phonics-for-struggling-readers-ufli-2nd-learn-to-read-write-spell-hW6xBbUF?usid=UHIcIm9H&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

In this ongoing class, each week we will learn or review a new phonics rule. The review lessons will take concepts that have been previously taught (in either my 1st grade phonics or previously in this class) and help solidify the learners' understanding before moving on. The skills taught in this class are typically taught in second grade but are now being offer to older learners who need support and reteaching at this level

Each day we will focus on a phonics rule and/or syllable type, practice with a sort or other activity to put into our word journals, play our phonics fun game, and we may read a phonics passage.

Students will need the handouts for the class each day and will need a word journal (composition book/spiral notebook) to keep their work together. This class includes exclusive access to my RAZkids classroom with tons of books and additional materials.

This class is for readers who know their consonant and short vowel sounds, blends/digraphs, the silent e rule, and have experience with r-controlled vowels and vowel digraphs. They should be able to use these rules to blend most regular single syllable words.

Parents should be nearby to help with any technology issues but do not necessarily need to sit with their child. Of course, parents are welcome to sit off camera with their learner if they wish or their child needs additional support. Below are the sounds studied in each unit:
