Placement classes are 25min in length and are $43. - - - - - Expectations for In-Class Sound Quality and Muting I will always encourage all students to participate in the class experience. My desire is to have students unmuted as much as possible. It creates an ease of interacting and answering questions without spend time muting and unmuting. In order for this to take place, it is important to have your student situated in a quiet place that is free from background noise such as television, radio, phone calls, or conversations. Basic Rule of Thumb: If you can hear it....so can the entire class. I will sometimes mute students, but I will also call on them for answers and thoughts, so every child needs to know how to unmute. I do not have the ability to unmute students from my end. Please, show your child how to unmute when asked to do so. I realize that there are times when you may need to mute your own child for privacy reasons or due to unavoidable background noise, so please feel free to use your discretion in these circumstances. Working together, we can attain great sound quality for all the students!

5 Lessons
over 5 WeeksLesson 1:
Camping at the Lake
In this lesson, students will meet our main characters Jojo and Jake. We will talk about the difference between short and long vowel sounds, and learn to change a short vowel word to a long vowel word by adding a Magic-e. Students will practice their new skill by reading the story "Camping at the Lake" as an interactive read aloud activity. Students will take turns being the "sentence leader" as we practice reading sentences from the story.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
A Fun Game
Students will get to know Jojo and Jake a bit better today as we follow them to the toy store in the story "A Fun Game." We will team up to spell some CVC words, read a few sentences containing those words, and then use clapping activities to change those CVC words into long-vowel words. We will utilize story questions to practice spelling and comprehension. In every lesson, we will be training our ears to hear the difference between long and short vowels.
25 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Let's Hike
Who likes to hike? Jojo and Jake like to hike. The letter "i" is the star of the Magic-e game today. As always, we will use interactive activities to practice our spelling and reading. We will read the story "Let's Hike" as an interactive read aloud activity. Students will, once again, have the opportunity to take turns being the "sentence leader" using their new skills.

Poor Jake! He's having a bit of trouble today. His trip to the ice cream truck did not turn out so well. No worries though, because Jojo is ready to help. Skills practice in transforming words, spelling, and reading aloud will keep students engaged in this lesson titled "Oh no, Jake!"

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Cherie Steele. I am a graduate of Penn State University, and I am trained in the teaching of Intensive Phonics. I hold both TESOL and TEFL certifications. In addition, I have a strong background in music, having completed 3 years of study in music and vocal performance at JDF Records in Nashville, TN. I have twenty years of experience as a curriculum author and teacher. I am also the mother of five fabulous kids, all of whom I have completely homeschooled.
For the past twenty years, one of my great loves has been teaching language arts. Reading, writing, grammar, literature, and poetry are my passions. From ensuring that young students have a firm foundation in phonics to training older students to become great writers, it is my goal to establish a love of language arts in children.
I invite you to look over the parent reviews regarding the efficacy of the Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling Curriculum and the teaching methods used in my classroom.
Your student will feel right at home in my classroom. I am a patient teacher, and I love to bring out smiles and a feeling of accomplishment. My goal is simple...lay solid foundations and build upon them with quality material.
I am excited to meet your student.
See you in class! :)
