My desire is to have students unmuted as much as possible. It creates an ease of interacting and answering questions without spend time muting and unmuting. In order for this to take place, it is important to have your student situated in a quiet place that is free from background noise such as television, radio, phone calls, or conversations. Basic Rule of Thumb: If you can hear it....so can the entire class. I will sometimes mute students, but I will also call on them for answers and thoughts, so every child needs to know how to unmute. I do not have the ability to unmute students from my end. Please, show your child how to unmute when asked to do so. I realize that there are times when you may need to mute your own child for privacy reasons or due to unavoidable background noise, so please feel free to use your discretion in these circumstances. Working together, we can attain great sound quality for all the students!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Cherie Steele. I am a mother of five fabulous kids, all of whom I’ve completely homeschooled. I have twenty years of experience as a curriculum author, private tutor, online teacher, a private co-op teacher, and a homeschool teacher.
I am a graduate of Penn State University and trained in the teaching of Intensive Phonics. I hold TESOL and TEFL certifications as well. In addition, I have a strong background in music, having completed 3 years of study in music and vocal performance at JDF Records in Nashville, TN. Locally, I have taught private piano and voice.
For the past twenty years, one of my great loves has been teaching language arts. Reading, writing, grammar, literature, and poetry are my passions. From ensuring that young students have a firm foundation in phonics to training older students to become great writers, it is my goal to establish a love of language arts in children.
I have logged thousands of online classes worldwide with students ranging in age from three to eighteen. I currently teach children in ten countries weekly, with classes ranging from reading and phonics for the "littles," to grammar and creative writing for the older children. I love the smiles and energy of the "littles" and the inquisitiveness and knowledge base of the older students.
Your student will feel right at home in my classroom. I am a patient teacher, and I love to bring smiles and a feeling of accomplishment. My goal is simple...lay solid foundations and build upon them with quality material.
I am excited to meet your student.
See you in class! :)
