WELCOME! ALL About The PHONICS for READING, WRITING, and SPELLING program: Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling is a comprehensive program encompassing reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension. This interactive, phonics-intensive program is steeped in the time-tested Spalding philosophy of reading. Students will learn systematically as phonograms are presented in order from simple to complex. Multi-sensory lessons are fast-paced and fun! Students will learn and grow with our original characters Jojo and Jake as they follow them through a series of 45 all-original stories. Engaging characters, thoughtful stories, and smooth continuity of lessons make Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling highly effective for all learning styles! If you're looking to build great readers and inspire a love of reading.... you've come to the right place! LEVEL A - CLASS OVERVIEW This ongoing class will teach students the concept of Magic-e (Silent-e) and solidify it with fun, colorful practice. The class will continually loop through a 5-week cycle, giving each vowel its week in the spotlight. Hop in at any point...stay as long as you like!! You'll never miss a beat. It's a fun way to master CVC-e words. My teaching style is welcoming, kind, and patient, so students always feel right at home. Each child will have ample opportunity to interact within the classroom. This class can prepare your reader for my next level class "Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling - Level B: "CVCe to Simple Blends and Digraphs." It is a great way to gain the Silent-e knowledge that is a prerequisite for entering that class. It will also introduce learners to the format of this phonics instruction and introduce them to our cute friends Jojo and Jake, whom they will follow throughout the program. So, whether prepping for the next level or simply introducing your young reader to the power of Magic-e, you'll find what you need here. I'm so excited to meet your learner. LEVELING GUIDE The following is a Leveling Guide for the "Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling" curriculum: Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling - Level A: "Hello, Magic-e" This is for students who have mastered CVC and are ready to learn CVCe words. Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling - Level B: "CVCe, Blends, and Digraphs" This is for students who already have a basic understanding of CVCe. This level covers consonant blends and ten of the most common digraphs. (sh, ch, th, wh, ph, ee, ai, ay, ar, or) Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling - Level C: "Intermediate Phonics" This level is for students with mastery of CVCe and consonant blends. It also assumes familiarity with common digraphs that are covered in Level B. This level covers intermediate-level phonograms. (er/ir/ur/(w)or, ing/ang/ong/ung, ink/ank/onk/unk, oa, oi/oy, oo, igh, ow, ea, alk, ould, ed) Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling-Level D: "Advanced Phonics" This level is for students with a firm mastery of long and short vowels, consonant blending, and common digraphs that are covered in Level B. It also assumes familiarity with the intermediate-level phonograms that are covered in Level C. *A note concerning placement: I currently offer private bookings for the purpose of placement. If you are uncertain where to place your child within the Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling Curriculum and are interested in a fun, relaxed, one-on-one placement class, simply message me to reserve a spot. NOTE: Private Instruction is also available. Expectations for In-Class Sound Quality and Muting I will always encourage all students to participate in the class experience. My desire is to have students unmuted as much as possible. It creates an ease of interacting and answering questions without spend time muting and unmuting. In order for this to take place, it is important to have your student situated in a quiet place that is free from background noise such as television, radio, phone calls, or conversations. Basic Rule of Thumb: If you can hear it....so can the entire class. I will sometimes mute students, but I will also call on them for answers and thoughts, so every child needs to know how to unmute. I do not have the ability to unmute students from my end. Please, show your child how to unmute when asked to do so. I realize that there are times when you may need to mute your own child for privacy reasons or due to unavoidable background noise, so please feel free to use your discretion in these circumstances. Working together, we can attain great sound quality for all the students!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Cherie Steele. I am a graduate of Penn State University, and I am trained in the teaching of Intensive Phonics. I hold both TESOL and TEFL certifications. In addition, I have a strong background in music, having completed 3 years of study in music and vocal performance at JDF Records in Nashville, TN. I have twenty years of experience as a curriculum author and teacher. I am also the mother of five fabulous kids, all of whom I have completely homeschooled.
For the past twenty years, one of my great loves has been teaching language arts. Reading, writing, grammar, literature, and poetry are my passions. From ensuring that young students have a firm foundation in phonics to training older students to become great writers, it is my goal to establish a love of language arts in children.
I invite you to look over the parent reviews regarding the efficacy of the Phonics for Reading, Writing, and Spelling Curriculum and the teaching methods used in my classroom.
Your student will feel right at home in my classroom. I am a patient teacher, and I love to bring out smiles and a feeling of accomplishment. My goal is simple...lay solid foundations and build upon them with quality material.
I am excited to meet your student.
See you in class! :)
