This is a multi-day class where students will learn the short sounds like in cap, pet, hit, cob and jug. This is a great class to supplement any full reading curriculum!

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1

This class will cover the short sounds /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/. Students will be taught using a direct instruction approach to learn phoneme isolation, identity, categorization, blending, segmentation and more. Students will respond as a group and individually to determine their understanding.

Day 1: Short /a/ sound.
Day 2: Short /e/ sound.
Day 3: Short /i/ sound.
Day 4: Short /o/ sound.
Day 5: Short /u/ sound.

This class is taught in English.

Students will be able to recognize the short vowel sounds /a/, /e/, /i/, /o/ and /u/ in isolation and within a CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word, blend CVC words and segment CVC words with the short vowel soundS.

Throughout the lesson I will ask the students to respond as a group and individually to assess their understanding.
Grades Offered

Students will need a piece of string about 12 inches long with two knots tied in it about every 4 inches.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
