Class Experience
Let's go to the zoo, and see what the animals do... Hi friends! I can't wait to take you to the 'zoo' to learn about phonics! We are going to have so much fun learning the letter sounds in this interactive course. You will also learn how to write letters, and even start sounding out words. I will be using a mix of the Zoo -Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears curriculums in this literacy program. I have had multiple trainings in both programs, and I have used them for several years. Students will become familiar with and comfortable using phonics, and they will practice early literacy skills.
2 files available upon enrollmentEach lesson you will need: -a blank notebook with at least 26 pages (or you can use paper and bind together in a notebook at the end) *You will use the same notebook each week -markers -the HWT shapes pre-cut (they will be posted for each letter) -glue -other supplies indicated below Week 1: -Monday: Letter A The students will be introduced to Allie Alligator and practice the /a/ sound. They will create an Apple Stamped A in their notebooks. Extra supplies: a small apple cut in half (or slices if needed), and paint on a plate -Wednesday: Letter B The students will be introduced to Bubba Bear and the /b/ sound. They will create a Button B in their notebooks. Extra supplies: buttons -Friday: Letter C The students will be introduced to Catina Cat and the hard /c/ sound. They will create a Cotton Ball C in their notebooks. Extra supplies: cotton balls and a blue marker Week 2: -Monday: Letter D The students will be introduced to DeeDee Deer and the /d/ sound. They will create a Dinosaur D in their notebooks. Extra supplies: google eyes and colorful paper scraps (or colorful paper and scissors) *We will cut these out to look like teeth, eyes, and parts of the dinosaur -Wednesday: Letter E The students will be introduced to Ellie Elephant and the /e/ sound. They will create an Egg-y E in their notebooks. Extra supplies: eggs cut outs (feel free to use the print out or cut some out yourself!) -Friday: Letter F The students will be introduced to Francy Fish and the /f/ sound. They will create a Family F Extra supplies: scissors and small pictures of your family members (that you don't need back!) Week 3: -Monday: Letter G The students will be introduced to Gordo Gorillaand the /g/ sound. They will create a G collage in their notebooks. Extra supplies: green, gold, and g items to glue to a letter G (you can use stickers, feathers, scraps of paper, and other random things that you can find around the house!) -Wednesday: Letter H The students will be introduced to Honey Horse and the /h/ sound. They will create a Handprint H in their notebooks. Extra supplies: paint on a plate and something to clean hands with -Friday: Letter I The students will be introduced to Innie Inchworm and the /i/ sound. They will create an Igloo I in their notebooks. Extra supplies: mini marshmallows (or small squares of white paper) Week 4: -Monday: Letter J The students will be introduced to Jerry Jellyfish and the /j/ sound. They will create a Jewel J in their notebooks. Extra supplies: small jewels -Wednesday: Letter K The students will be introduced to Kayo Kangaroo and the /k/ sound. They will create a Key K in their notebooks. Extra supplies: a key and paint on a tray or plate -Friday: Letter L The students will be introduced to Lizzy Lizard and the /l/ sound. They will create a Leaf L in their notebooks. Extra supplies: leaves Week 5: -Monday: Letter M The students will be introduced to Missy Mouse and the /m/ sound. They will create a Monster M in their notebooks. Extra supplies: google eyes, scraps of paper, scissors, and other decorative items -Wednesday: Letter N The students will be introduced to Nigel Nightowl and the /n/ sound. They will create a Noodle N in their notebooks. Extra supplies: different kinds of noodles -Friday O The students will be introduced to Olive Octopus and the /o/ sound. They will create a Octopus O in their notebooks. Extra supplies: google eyes and 8 strips of paper cut out like octopus legs Week 6: -Monday: Letter P The students will be introduced to Peewee Penguin and the /p/ sound. They will create a Pom Pom P in their notebooks. Extra supplies: pom poms -Wednesday: Letter Q The students will be introduced to Queenie Quail and the /q/ sound. They will create a Q-tip Q in their notebooks. Extra supplies: q tips and paint -Friday: Letter R The students will be introduced to Robby Rabbit and the /r/ sound. They will create a Rainbow R in their notebooks. Extra supplies: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple markers Week 7: -Monday: Letter S The students will be introduced to Sammy Snake and the /s/ sound. They will create a Salt S in their notebooks. Extra supplies: salt and water color paints -Wednesday: Letter T The students will be introduced to Timothy Tiger and the /t/ sound. They will create a Tree T in their notebooks. Extra supplies: brown and green paper (or tissue paper) for tearing -Friday: Letter U The students will be introduced to Umber Umbrella Bird and the /u/ sound. They will create an Underwater U in their notebooks. Extra supplies: fish stickers Week 8: -Monday: Letter V The students will be introduced to Vincent Vampire Bat and the /v/ sound. They will create a Volcano V in their notebooks. Extra supplies: orange, red, and yellow paints -Wednesday: Letter W The students will be introduced to Willie Weasel and the /w/ sound. They will create a Watermelon W in their notebooks. Extra supplies: green, pink/red, and black paint -Friday: Letter X The students will be introduced to Xavier Fox and the /x/ sound. They will create a X-ray X in their notebooks. Extra supplies: black paper, white paint, and something to clean up hands and arms with Week 9: -Monday: Letter Y The students will be introduced to Yancy Yak and the /y/ sound. They will create a Yarn Y in their notebooks. Extra supplies: pieces of yarn -Wednesday: Letter Z The students will be introduced to Zeke Zebra and the /z/ sound. They will create a Zebra Z in their notebooks. Extra supplies: black paint

Children will need supervision when using scissors and paint.
