Class Experience
This fun, hands-on and fun-filled course provides students will the foundation skills and practice to help them become amazing readers. Students will learn phonemic awareness, letter sounds, word building, and decodable reading. This curriculum uses the Science of Reading (SOR) practices, which are heavily researched by educators, and proven to be highly effective. Overview of Weekly Posts: Post 1: Weekly Lesson Objectives will be posted Teacher Teaching Video #1- Introducing new learning. I will go over new letters, focus HFW (High Frequency Words) and heart words. Post 2: Teacher Teaching Video #2- Word Mapping Practice Video that students will do WITH teacher while watching the video. Students will need their word mapping printable. The teacher will share the screen while modeling word mapping. Students will gradually decrease the level of model for students to independently map while going through the focus words with the teacher. Students will upload a picture of their word mapping sheets that they completed after the video, Post 3: All-In-One Mat Decodable Drill Sheet Home Connection W/S These will be posted for students to practice reading with an adult. Students will be asked to post a video of them reading or post a picture of their home connection worksheets. Post 4: A reading of a decodable story will be posted for students. Students can then practice reading on their own or with the video. The teacher will post comprehension questions for students to answer via video or text back on the post. Post 5: Nonsense words- The teacher will post a video explaining nonsense words, stuck words, “stretching out” our words. (This video will be used multiple times) Nonsense word sheets will be posted to practice stretching out our words. This post will not begin until week 3. All posts/videos above will be done weekly covering new material. Teacher Chelsea is very energetic, patient, and encouraging. She uses whiteboards, slides, props, and visuals to help students better understand the content. She will model concepts for students in her videos and then provide opportunities for students to practice what they learn at home and in classroom posts. Students will be encouraged to submit weekly videos of themselves reading the decodable reading passages, which can be shared with only the teacher or other students. Students will also be able to interact with other students by sharing pictures of their handwriting practice and reading practice videos. Students will finally be able to comment on other students' submissions, share what they enjoyed about the lesson that week, share what was hard for them and boost one another up by building a community of learners. Students will also have a weekly scavenger hunt game and will post their findings to the classroom.

Mrs. Chelsea has her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She received her state’s licensure for teaching Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. From there, Mrs. Chelsea took classes to receive a Special Education License for ages birth through fifth grade. Mrs. Chelsea received her 120-Hour TESOL Certification.
Mrs. Chelsea has taught in a variety of settings over the last fifteen years. Mrs. Chelsea began her career mentoring children with special needs and tutoring them one-on-one. Next, Mrs. Chelsea taught for 3 years in public schools as a self-contain and integrated Special Education Classroom Teacher. Mrs. Chelsea left the classroom to become a homeschool teacher to her three children. She is in her 6th year of homeschooling. FOr the last four years, she has taught online one-on-one English to ESL students for four years. She is in her third year teaching Kindergarten in a private school setting.
Mrs. Chelsea is a very interactive, energetic teacher. Her classes are always interactive and upbeat. Mrs. Chelsea has the ability and experience to adjust her lessons while in class in order for all lessons to be individualized to meet the needs of all learners. Mrs. Chelsea always ensures all learners meet the learning objectives.
