This introduction to phonics and phonemic awareness class is an interactive class that focuses on beginning reading skills. We will focus on letter recognition, sounds, and phonemes in words. Students will have fun while learning.

This class will introduce students to reading readiness skills. These skills include alphabet recognition and knowledge, phonics and phonemic awareness, and speaking and listening. Students will use interactive call and response, action-based movement (visual, auditory) to engage them in learning activities while having fun.
Learning Goals
Students will learn beginning reading skills such as alphabet knowledge, letter sounds, blending and segmenting words, rhyming and word families, and syllables.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a Certified Elementary Education Kindergarten Teacher and have been teaching children to read for over 25 years in the public school system. I have a Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist, am English Language Learner Certified, have experience teaching Saxon Phonics, Letterland Phonics, and Michael Heggerty Phonemic Awareness. I am recently trained in the LETRS learning course of study based in the science of reading. I am a mom of two adult children and love watching children grow.
