Research shows that 84% of words in the English language are decodable. Why not teach children to decode, or read, using phonics? In this 5-week course, students will practice blending words with the long-vowel sound of letters "a, e, i, o, and u" with a silent letter "e" at the end of the word. The pattern is consonant-vowel-consonant-e (cvce). Example- cane, these, hide, bone,cute. Phonics instruction uses the knowledge of the relationship between letters and sounds to teach reading....
Students will be able to decode (read) consonant-vowel-consonant-e words with accuracy and automaticity
Students should practice the words presented in the lesson daily until the words can be read quickly and easily.
Paper and pencil
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The students will be assessed through the completion of the digital game and spelling work.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will use the book, "Phonics Pathways," by Delores Hiskes as a reference.
