This class is for beginning and early readers, ages 4-7. We will focus on phonetic letter sounds, blends, and CVC words in the _AT word family. Words include: cat, rat, mat, sat, bat, and hat. After brief introductions, students will be encouraged to share something they have brought with them (a cat? a hat? No rats or bats please!) with the small group of learners. (Yes, I make allowances for shy learners!) With these small classes, everyone should have ample opportunity to interact with the teacher. Classes are relaxed and friendly. Some knowledge of the alphabet and the short "a" sound is helpful, but not required. Class considerations (because it sounds better than "rules"): I try to make the class as interactive as I can. *Please DOWNLOAD HANDOUTS and print them out for your student to use in class as indicated in the announcement section of the class. *Please discourage your little learner from scribbling on the slides with the annotation tool in Zoom. Generally, I will start with the annotation tool turned off and turn it on when we get to slides where it can be used. *Please provide a quiet learning space for your student. I will mute students whose background noise is disruptive to the class as a whole. If you know your little learner does better in class with a parent at their side, please feel free to sit with them and encourage them. You are more than welcome to sit in with us. :) Shy learners often want Mom or Dad to sit in until they become comfortable, and that is just fine! Sometimes, I will add links to interactive slides for after-class review activities; these are bonus materials for review and retention. They are optional. I look forward to seeing you in class!
