This class is designed for the beginning reader who is familiar with letter names/sounds, and basic blending skills. I will give each child the opportunity to introduce themselves and ask each individual questions about their favorite color, food, etc. Then, I will read a fun story while asking comprehension questions throughout. After, we will do interactive phonemic awareness activities primarily by substituting one letter as well as reading a list of words together.
We will work on the following Kindergarten (and one 1st grade) ELA Literacy Common Core standards. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.K.1, K.2, K.3 With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text. With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details. With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.K2, K3, 1.2 Add or substitute a sound in one-syllable words to make new words) Distinguish between similar words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ) Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds)
