Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the service-learning process - Investigation, Preparation, Action, Reflection, Demonstration and Evaluation (IPARDE) - which is a research-based teaching and learning strategy that engages youth in service. Students will use this model to create and implement a community service project.
In addition to being a professional school counselor for over 20 years, I have also worked at the middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. I have extensive training and experience in the area of philanthropy and service-learning. For several years I worked for INSPIRE3: Indiana Service-Learning Philanthropy Initiative - Resources to Educate, Engage, Empower (formerly named generaionOn Indiana). I worked with educators and youth across our state to develop and implement service-learning projects, big and small. This flex class is inspired by my passion for creating change in our world and giving of our time, talent, and treasure!
This is a project-based class. Therefore, as students work through the lessons, they will have have work to complete that correlates to the lesson. While I will often provide a worksheet that has questions and directives for the students to complete, the amount of time required for this class will vary depending on the type of service project that they choose to do.
This is a project-based class. Therefore, the supply list will vary from student to student depending on what service project the student decides to complete. These are decisions that the student will make as a part of the class.
I will provide feedback on all work that is turned in to me. They will not receive a letter grade.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
