Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Welcome to Phases of the Moon: Oreo Cookie Fun! In this class, students will learn about the 8 phases of the moon: the new moon, the waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and the waning crescent. They will be introduced to this simple astronomy in the fun way of using Oreo cookies! If students have Oreo cookies available, they will create their own moons with the cream filling as we complete the class. If they do not have Oreo cookies, no worries! They can still participate by using pen or pencil to draw the moon phases on the attached worksheet.
During class, we will make observations, discuss why the moon has phases, and learn about how the moon orbits the earth and the earth orbits the sun. This lesson is a great way to learn about the importance of the moon, in a simple lecture/discussion style class.

Hello!
Welcome to my teacher page! My name is Mackenzie and I am a mother to 3 kids who also enjoy Outschool classes. I was born and raised in Arizona, but now live in the cold midwest. (and LOVE it!)
I also LOVE teaching. Teaching is truly my passion. I have experience teaching students ages 2-18. For the last 7+ years I have been teaching online. I have taught students and teachers from all over the world! I also have volunteered with my local YMCA to create youth enrichment classes that involve art, physical education, music, science, and more. I have coached youth basketball, volleyball, and cheer! Music is also something I love to do. I can play the guitar, trumpet, and a little bit of the piano. While I love to teach, I also love learning new things.
I have am a state certified teacher with a valid teaching license. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education K-8 Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University. I have a TESOL certificate from Arizona State University.
