Class Experience

This is an ongoing class that focuses on social interaction amongst students who share a common interest: their pets. Students will take pictures of their pets prior to class, upload them to the classroom wall and then share their pet photos with the other students during our live zoom meeting. They will be encouraged to interact with one another, to maintain dialog and conversation, and to critique photographs in a positive way. The teacher will act as facilitator, asking questions about the pets, pointing out details of the photographs, and encouraging conversation.

Week 1: May 1: Pets in the Outdoors. Get your pets outside and try to capture them doing what they do best. This will require quick shutter speed because your pet may be moving pretty quick!

Week 2: May 8: Posing your pet. This can be a little tricky but use treats or whatever is necessary to set up a great shot of your pet. This can be indoors or outside. Use props if you like.

Week 3: May 15: Zoom in. Choose something really unique and interesting about your pet and zoom in on it. Maybe create a macro shot. Really great markings on your snake? Does your puppy have a cute pink nose? Your kitty's paw print is in the shape of a heart? Capture it!

Week 4: May 22: Sleeping Pet. Shhh, don't wake them or you might not get your shot! Sneak in while they are sleeping and capture the cutest picture of the cutest pet you ever did see!

We will meet each week to discuss the photos so please be sure photos are taken and ready before class meets.

I've been a teacher in a traditional classroom since 2002. During that time, I have experience with pre-K through 8th grade. To further my interest in photography, I completed the New York Institute of Photography courses and received my certificate of completion in 2006. I've also completed several online training to strengthen my skills. I have photographed weddings, real estate, and portraits professionally but I absolutely love photographing nature and macro shots!
