Description
Class Experience
The student will develop their skills in persuasive writing using their writing skills in which they they introduce the topic, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement.
As an elementary classroom/ special education teacher, teaching persuasive writing unit is a good way to introduce students to making changes in our world. The students are able to develop their opinions on things that matter to them and provide the change in the form of writing. This builds a sense of awareness of the world we live in. This unit of study helps the young writers develop their writing skills and confidence in writing. I have seen students build confidence, and growth in persuasive writing.
Student will be asked to continue their persuasive writing assignments from class.
1 file available upon enrollmentPaper and pencil or favorite writing notebook.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
During the writing to class, I will assess the students writing skills using a rubric for writing the opinion writing from a second grade level. I will complete informal assessments throughout the lessons to provide extra support to the students. First, during the students active engagement at the beginning of the lesson. Then, during the middle of the lesson within small group instruction, and at the end assessing the students completed assignments and tasks.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
