In this 5 week class, students will learn about the structure of a persuasive essay and how to craft a compelling argument. They will go through the writing process to write their own persuasive essays.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
This five-week elementary persuasive essay class aims to make the writing process not just educational, but a thrilling adventure. Through a mix of games, storytelling, and creative exercises, students will develop essential persuasive writing skills while having a blast along the way. Students will learn the structure of a persuasive essay and go through the writing process to craft their own compelling persuasive essay.

Week 1: Setting the Stage for Persuasion
        Day 1: Overview of the persuasive essay genre and its real-world applications. Discussion on the power of persuasion in daily life.
        Day 2: Introduction to ethos, pathos, and logos.

Week 2: Building a Strong Foundation
        Day 1: Exciting brainstorming activities to help students select their persuasive topics. Introduction to researching and gathering evidence to support arguments.    
        Day 2: Developing a clear and concise thesis statement. Overview of the essay structure: introduction, body, and conclusion.

Week 3: The Art of Persuasive Writing
        Day 1: Creative exercises to develop attention-grabbing introductions. Analyzing effective introductions in famous persuasive essays. Writing introduction paragraphs.
        Day 2: Organizing and presenting evidence effectively. Drafting persuasive body paragraphs.

Week 4: Counterarguments and Conclusions
        Day 1: Fun role-playing activities to explore counterarguments. Strategies for addressing and refuting opposing views. Writing counterarguments.
        Day 2: Analyzing and discussing effective conclusions in persuasive writing. Writing concluding paragraphs.

Week 5: Polishing Your Persuasive Piece
         Day 1: Revision, edit, and publish. 
         Day 2: Sharing and celebrating completed persuasive essays.
