Personalized Reading Tutoring (Orton-Gillingham)

Hello Outschool families! My name is Denise and I am an animated, patient, and effective reading tutor! I strive to create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and are happy to come to class each week. 

Every class will cover phonemic awareness, explicit phonics instruction, fluency practice, and reading comprehension. We cover critical reading skills such as syllable counting, phoneme addition/deletion, and clear vowel recognition (short/long/controlled r).

A sample schedule:
5 min- Greetings and phoneme warm up (working with sounds)
10 min- Explicit phonics instruction through games and orthographic mapping
10 min- Reading a decodable reader and answering comprehension questions

This teacher follows The Science of Reading and Orton Gillingham methodology.
