Assessment
An initial assessment will be given to determine the child's current reading abilities. This information will be sent to parents to see the child's strength and growth areas.Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
This class will be one-on-one reading instruction personalized to meet your child exactly where they are on their reading journey. My first session will be an assessment to see what skills your child is coming in with and where we should start during the next class time. I will assess your child on letter and sound recognition, sight words, letter formation, and phonemic awareness skills. If your student is beginning to read, I will also assess them on spelling and digraphs, blends, vowel pairs, etc. After our initial assessment, I will send you information about your child's strengths and areas of growth. We will then work weekly on the growth areas. My approach to teaching is simple, repetitive, and engaging. I like to get children involved in their learning by allowing them to move their bodies to answer questions, using engaging pictures, writing on white boards, and moving swiftly from one concept to the next in order to hold their attention. I utilize the I do (teacher led), we do (try it together), you do (try it alone) approach to help children feel comfortable with new skills.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading skills by learning through targeted instruction to meet their current level of need. They will learn new sight words, letters, sounds, practice spelling (or letter formation), and build upon their phonemic awareness skills.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Teaching as well as a Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership. I taught Transitional Kindergarten for 4 years and Reading Intervention for 4 years. I have experience with Open Court reading, SRA Early Interventions in Reading, Great Leaps, and OWL (Opening the World of Learning) Curriculum.
