Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 3
This class will cover decoding/phonics skills and/or reading comprehension skills based on the student's individual needs. We will read a short story together and discuss the characters and events. Then, the student will engage in phonics instruction as needed as well as reading comprehension skills. Optional activities that may be included based on learner needs include: sight words and phonics instruction, 1 reading strategy skill per session, or a combination of phonics and comprehension. I will also send a simple questionnaire to the parent upon enrollment in order to learn a bit more about your student and your reading goals for your student. I want to help develop a love of learning! I will work to guide your child to use their strengths as readers to improve in other aspects of reading. I use a combination of direct teaching and student-led learning in order to engage the student. I have taught in elementary school for 15 years and I am certified in Pre-K through 5th grade. I am very experienced and am prepared to help your child improve their reading skills! *If you do not see a time listed that works for your child, please look at my availability so we can find a time that does work!

My Background:
I have been a public school teacher at a Title I school for 15 years. My experience ranges from K-5th grade, and I have taught every academic subject: Math, Reading, ELA, Social Studies, and Science. I have worked as a homeroom teacher as well as an ESOL teacher. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Toccoa Falls College (2005 graduate) as well as a Master of Education Degree from North Georgia College & State University (2010 graduate). My Georgia teaching license is current. I have professional training in leadership, ESL Endorsement, reading and math support, and more!
I believe every child can succeed if given the right tools and positive encouragement. I have 15 years of experience working with a variety of learners from those who struggle and need a lot of patient guidance to those who excel and need a challenge! I see each learner as a precious gift and seek to provide the right support based on each child's needs. I also have homeschool experience so I can approach learning from your homeschool child's personal needs! It is a joy and blessing for me to teach!
