Class Experience

Students will learn how to read music, gain improvisation and creativity skills, and expand their knowledge of the piano. These lessons are specifically tailored to the students needs, musical taste, and goals. There is no need for any prior musical knowledge, although intermediate and advanced students are accepted as well. If there have been prior piano lessons, please inform me on the level of where the student is at, or which method book they have completed. Since these lessons are individualized, continuing with prior piano books will not be common, but might occur on a case by case basis.

For our first lesson, knowledge of musical background is very important. Lessons will progress according to the students outside work and preparation, therefore homework assignments are highly recommended but not required. Every week students will receive a practice sheet so they know what to work on. Since my approach is very relaxed, students are not required to practice (as life happens) but of course, will continue to progress more if they do put in outside time.

* Please note that this is a fixed four-week class format. Students can continue with lessons upon enrolling. Time & day will be upon request and will be private sections. If you are wanting a more flexible schedule, I have this same class listed as an ongoing section.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to not only play the piano, read music notes, and understand rhythms, but will also learn to create their own music, improvise, and explore the piano in an enjoyable way. As these lessons are personalized, materials will look different for each child depending on the goals of the student, family, and myself. While many beginners will all start out similarly, the intermediate and advanced repertoire will vary depending on the goals at the moment.

Parental Guidance
Parents are welcome to sit in the lessons, however, progress often comes best when students are given freedom to learn on their own and develop a relationship with the teacher. For younger students, parents are asked to help students practice at home and review the materials. If parents join the lesson, please only help when needed with hand positions, questions, etc. but be sure that it doesn’t interfere with the lesson itself.
Supply List
Students are expected to have a working keyboard or acoustic piano at home, or access to one during the allotted lesson time. Piano books will be discussed after the first lesson with the cost averaging between $7-$15. Supplementary music may be given and will be provided by myself.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Because I believe that every student learns differently, the students will have a personalized lesson experience and will enjoy their music lesson more because of it. When considering the price for the class, it's important to note that these lessons are tailored specifically to each learner. I do not use a universal set of books or curriculum. Because of this approach, it is a very personalized experience that will help each individual student excel.
