Description
Class Experience
Students will learn to not only play the piano, read music notes, and understand rhythms, but will also learn to create their own music, improvise, and explore the piano in an enjoyable way. As these lessons are personalized, materials will look different for each child depending on the goals of the student, family, and myself. While many beginners will all start out similarly, the intermediate and advanced repertoire will vary depending on the goals at the moment.
Because I believe that every student learns differently, the students will have a personalized lesson experience and will enjoy their music lesson more because of it. When considering the price for the class, it's important to note that these lessons are tailored specifically to each learner. I do not use a universal set of books or curriculum. Because of this approach, it is a very personalized experience that will help each individual student excel.
Practice sheets will always be uploaded after each lesson with recommendations for students to work on throughout the week. While this is not required, it is extremely encouraged and will help students progress more rapidly when there is outside work in place.
Students are expected to have a working keyboard or acoustic piano at home, or access to one during the allotted lesson time. Piano books will be discussed after the first lesson with the cost averaging between $7-$15. Supplementary music may be given and will be provided by myself.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learning piano is a long process, and often assessment is difficult. I provide opportunities for my students to perform with others and this is the best opportunity to practice preparing, performing, and learning from such an experience. These are optional.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Parents are welcome to sit in the lessons, however, progress often comes best when students are given freedom to learn on their own and develop a relationship with the teacher. For younger students, parents are asked to help students practice at home and review the materials. If parents join the lesson, please only help when needed with hand positions, questions, etc. but be sure that it doesn’t interfere with the lesson itself.
