Class Experience
Have you ever dreamed of playing the fiddle, or mandolin but weren’t sure where to start? Struggling with technique, practice methods, or finding the right pieces to play? You’ve come to the right place! As a passionate, dedicated teacher, I’m here to help you make progress and achieve your musical goals. My students often appreciate my patience, clear communication, and ability to adapt to their unique needs. In our first lesson, I’ll likely ask you to share your current skills—whether through a demonstration or a discussion about what you already know. This will help me understand your strengths and areas for growth. By the end of our session, you’ll have some learning materials, a clear path forward, and an inspiring start to our musical journey together! Here are some key areas we’ll often focus on during lessons: Expanding Your Repertoire: Learning new pieces is one of the most rewarding parts of playing an instrument! Whatever your skill level, I’ll help you explore new songs that align with your interests and goals. Ear Training: A good ear for music can be developed with practice! I’ll guide you through fun exercises and games to help you improve your listening skills and deepen your connection to the music you love. Music Reading: If you’re interested in reading music, this skill will open up a wide range of possibilities and musical styles for you. Improvisation: While improvising may seem intimidating at first, it’s an incredibly freeing and rewarding skill that can enhance your overall musicianship. Jamming: With the skills you’ll develop in our lessons, plus some knowledge of musical structures, you’ll soon be ready to jump into a jam session! I’m excited to help you reach the point where you can make music with others. Music Theory: A strong grasp of music theory is key to understanding how music is structured. We’ll start with the basics—like notes and chords—and work our way up to concepts like the circle of fifths and key signatures. Technique: Mastering the techniques needed to play your instrument can be challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, playing will feel much easier. I’ll be there to guide you and offer tips to help you improve along the way.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! My name is Alani, and I'm excited to be teaching here on Outschool!
I teach lots of different music classes, including violin, mandolin, fiddle, and music theory! I love teaching students of all levels, from total beginner to advanced, and all ages. I am also an ESL/EFL (English as a second/foreign language) teacher. I love teaching people of all ages, but I have a special place in my heart for teaching kids!
I am passionate about teaching music and English online in one-on-one and small group contexts, and have done so on a private basis as well as worked with other online learning platforms.
I believe that everyone's connection to music is different, which means their goals and values will be different too! Everyone should be able to learn and achieve their goals along with a supportive and positive teacher, like me! This applies to learning any subject, but can be especially important when it comes to music or language, which are both challenging subjects. My students have told me that I am a good communicator, and that I am very patient and meet students where they are.
Aside from being a lover of music, I also am a fanatic of languages! Currently I study Spanish and Japanese, and I also studied Hebrew for a few months. I love the feeling of learning new things!
