🌟 Class Overview 🌟

Are your learners struggling with reading and writing, or do they excel and need an extra challenge? My personalized 1:1 ELA tutoring sessions are designed to meet their unique needs and tailored to fit their individual learning styles.

As a dually-certified ELA and special education teacher, I create a positive, inclusive environment where learners feel safe to collaborate, discuss, and practice.

Paramount to academic success is a learner’s belief in their own abilities. I assess their beliefs about reading and writing, adapting my approach to help them overcome negative narratives and build confidence.

Together, we’ll focus on essential skills in reading comprehension and essay writing while addressing the emotional aspects of academic growth.

Upon signing up, I’ll collaborate with you and your learner to design a customized curriculum that aligns with their goals. I offer tutoring in:

	•	Essay writing
	•	Reading comprehension
	•	Test preparation
	•	Grammar and spelling
	•	Creative writing

In our sessions, learners will engage in various mini-lessons based on their specific needs.

For academic writing, we might cover:

	•	Effective essay outlining
	•	Crafting strong thesis statements
	•	Choosing and integrating text evidence
	•	Citing sources to avoid plagiarism
	•	Mastering grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
	•	Using rubrics for self-assessment
	•	Revising with a critical eye
	•	Developing a positive writing narrative

For those interested in creative writing, we can explore:

	•	Outlining stories and developing compelling characters
	•	Crafting engaging beginnings and endings
	•	Writing conflict and climaxes
	•	Exploring different genres and rhetorical devices
	•	Finding a unique voice
	•	Understanding the importance of revision in the creative process

As a TESOL-certified educator with experience teaching ESL learners, including those preparing for the Cambridge B and C level exams, I can adjust my methods to meet specific needs.

📣 Important: To maximize the benefits of our sessions, please communicate with me before our first class so I can prepare a tailored lesson. If I don’t hear from you, I may not be able to customize our first meeting.

📣 Availability: If you don't see a suitable time slot, please message me, and I’ll do my best to accommodate your schedule!

My teaching "manifesto":
Teaching humanities is my greatest passion! I work to instill in my students a love of reading, writing, and deep thinking that goes beyond the classroom. I believe that all students can achieve academic success and become life-long learners, regardless of their backgrounds or their learning needs. I am passionate about inclusive classrooms that bring a wide range of students together, where we can all learn from each other and enrich each other's lives.

As a teacher, I focus on core reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that prepare students for college-level studies. However, I also believe that we all learn best when learning is social and enjoyable. To that end, I take creative and discussion-based approaches to teaching and I infuse classes with students' interests wherever possible.

Lastly, some other tidbits about me:
💫I'm fluent in Spanish and I'm now working on my Portuguese.
💫I play violin, piano, and guitar, and I love to sing and song-write for fun.
💫I have a curious cat named Madame George (Georgie for short) who often comes to class!
