In this four week class, students will craft an essay about a meaningful personal experience. We will use a writer's workshop format, consisting of a mini-lesson, group writing, and then individual writing. I will check in with each learner throughout the writing period to guide them in reflections that will strengthen their writing. Students will be expected to complete their writing outside of class time and must be willing to share what they've written with me. A typical class would be 10 minutes of mini lesson, 10 minutes of group writing, 15 minutes of individual writing/conferring time, and 5 minutes to share progress/respond to each other's writing. Week one: How to generate ideas, select a topic & get your ideas on paper. Week two: Focus in with even more depth/details, how to craft a beginning. Week three: How to craft an ending, begin revisions. Week four: Finish revisions/editing, publishing celebration. *This schedule may change depending on learner needs.

This class meets common core standards for writing for grades 3-5.
