In this 5-week course, students will learn the basics of money management including budgeting, credit, debit, savings, taxes, and investments. During the course, learners work through interactive real-world examples to reinforce concepts.

In this FLEX course, there is no live instruction. The material will be posted weekly and you can view it during the week at your convenience. All weekly coursework will be due at the end of the week - Sunday. Learners will get practice learning about money management through a simulation through real-world experiences. Learners will learn the basics of money management including budgeting, credit, debit, savings, and investments; all concepts will be reinforced through interactive activities. The class will include multiple interactive activities to mirror the "real world" budgeting and savings (in the Outschool classroom). Instruction will also be supplemented with activities including voting polls, sharing "stock tips," paying off their credit card, submitting their annual taxes, and question/answer discussions; all of which will prompt students to share their knowledge for a better understanding of the topic. No prior knowledge is required for this course. The course material will be posted at the start of each week (Monday): Week 1 | Topic - Planning Ahead: Salary, Take-Home Pay & Creating a Monthly Budget Week 2 | Topic - Understanding Taxes. How to File Yearly Taxes. Week 3 | Topic - Banking. Knowing the Difference between Savings, Credit & Debit. Week 4 | Topic - Retirement & Investments. 401Ks, Mutual Funds Week 5 | Topic - Stocks as an Investment
Learning Goals
By the end of the course, students will actively participate in a simulation teaching them how to set goals, budget, and manage their own money. The class is very interactive (in the Outschool classroom) so it encourages learner participation and questions.
