Students will learn effective strategies that help them craft their own 5-paragraph personal essays.

I am a National Board Certified elementary school teacher, children’s book author, and avid reader and writer. I have taught writing every year of my 28-year career, and I have been thoroughly trained in the Teachers College approach to Writing Workshop. It's very important to me that my students develop strong writing skills and habits, express themselves freely and confidently, and find the subject interesting and engaging.

Homework Offered
Students are encouraged to work on their essays after each class session. 
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will not receive a formal grade or score for their essays. I will provide as much feedback throughout our sessions as possible, and I am happy to communicate between sessions if students wish to ask questions or seek clarity with any of the strategies we learn. In some cases I will ask students to show me their work in one step before moving to the next. I will check student work by either conferring one-on-one during class time or through messages that we exchange between class sessions.
