Class Experience

In this multi-day course, students will have 5 lessons (1 per day for 5 days). These lessons are designed to develop perseverance, resilience, and grit. Lessons will last 35-45 minutes depending on topic, number of learners enrolled, and how much learners are comfortable sharing (this will be supported and encouraged).

Lesson 1: Growth Mindset 
Lesson 2: Setting SMART Goals
Lesson 3: Positive Thinking: Use Your Inner Coach to Overcome Your Inner Critic
Lesson 4: Techniques to Manage Anxiety
Lesson 5: Resilience

LESSON 1:

What is growth mindset? 
Is it just wishful thinking? 
What's the science behind it? 
How can we see it in action? 
Our brains are designed to change and adapt based on the skills we use. When we challenge our brain, it grows and strengths just like exercise does for our muscles. 

LESSON 2:

What's the difference between a wish and a goal? A goal is something you're taking steps to acheive. Goals are:

Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timely 

What are your goals? 


LESSON 3:

We all have an inner coach (positive, encouraging thoughts). We all have an inner critic (negative, discouraging thoughts). We get to choose which ones to believe and which ones to listen to. Choosing to listen to the inner coach strengthens its voice, and helps us to be our best. 

LESSON 4:

What is anxiety? 
What is its purpose? 
How do we feel physically when anxious? 
How can you tell when anxiety is no longer helpful? 
What makes you anxious? 
Which coping strategies work for you, and what's the science behind how they work? 
How can you use coping strategies when anxious? 

LESSON 5:

What is resilience? 
Why does resilience matter? 
How can we build our own resilience?
Learning Goals
Students will learn about growth mindset, setting smart goals, listening to positive thinking from their inner coach, while tuning out negative thoughts from their inner critic, developing resilience, and managing anxiety.
