Teacher expertise and credentials
I enjoy teaching fundamental through intermediate singing lessons, both private and group classes. I incorporate elements of sight singing, ear training, vocal exercises, performance techniques, and other aspects of musicianship into my instruction. The genres I focus on are classical singing, musical theatre, and jazz. I am comfortable working with students of all ages. My professional background includes a bachelor's degree in vocal performance, over 20 years of experience as a soloist and featured musical actress, and 10 years of experience teaching vocal technique and choral music. I also enjoy teaching reading/literature and any subject that involves culture, travel, or history. One of my great passions is world travel; I have traveled Europe extensively and speak Spanish on a conversational level.
For 7 years, I worked in public schools with students with special needs. I earned my master's degree in special education in 2016. It is important to me that all children are given an equal chance to learn and share their personality and interests. I am comfortable working with students with different abilities.
I believe that education should be fun, and that students should have more choices about what they want to learn and focus on in their school career. Students make more progress in subjects that they are interested in! I strive to customize lessons according to learner strengths and preferences, and I work to make each student feel successful and confident.
