You’ve attended your piano lessons and practiced for weeks. But now your teacher wants you to play in a recital, and you’re feeling scared! This class is designed for learners who have been studying the piano and are looking for extra reinforcement before a recital or other performance. In this class we will: • brainstorm reasons why performing helps us learn • explore why students often feel nervous before a performance • discuss positive ways to deal with performance anxiety • share ideas for preparing for a performance • act out the steps for a successful performance--before, during, and afterward • watch a performance by a professional pianist • learn how to be polite audience members • (if the learner is comfortable) perform a piano piece for the class • compliment other learners on their successes *Please note* There will be a casual, low-pressure opportunity for students to perform up to 2-3 minutes of music after the instruction portion of the class meeting. This performance time will be full of encouragement and acceptance. If any learner decides not to participate as a performer, they will be very welcome to stay involved as an audience member for the other performers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms. Joanna. Thank you for your interest in my classes!
As a piano teacher since 2001, a volunteer youth activity and music leader, an online ESL teacher, and a mother of six, I know children learn best when they are happy, engaged, and moving. Students in my classes participate in a variety of activities to keep them interested.
My classroom is a fun place where children can feel safe to ask questions and explore their creativity. I want my students to be comfortable, which leads them to gain confidence. Then I can push and challenge their skills to build their competence.
I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Brigham Young University in 2005. My teaching career began in 2001 when I was employed to teach group and private piano lessons at a music academy. I have also taught piano as a business owner in my own music studio, and offered piano lessons through a local homeschool partnership. Over the years I have taught thousands of lessons to hundreds of students. I love working with children, getting to know their personalities, and seeing their talents grow!
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing the piano, knitting, cross-stitching, hiking with my family, walking my goldendoodle, and taking my kids to the library.
I look forward to seeing you in class soon!
