By the end of this course students will: Know some of the history of storytelling - what it is, how it has been passed along, and how it is being used today. Know the elements of good storytelling. Select and learn a story. Apply what they have learned about storytelling in a class performance.
I'm a professional storyteller and teacher with over twenty years of experience teaching language arts, science, and social studies, and performing stories for schools, libraries, festivals, and private functions. I was also the resident storyteller for Wildacres Retreat Facility for four years. I continually work to hone the craft of storytelling through my own professional development, and I have studied with Nationally known storytellers from across the country. I am excited to share my accumulated knowledge with others and encourage the next generation of storytellers.
Selecting a story. (The time this takes will vary with each student, but they will have a week.) Learning a story to perform. (Students will have four weeks to learn it.)
Assessment will be based on the student performance at the end of the course.
