Learners are provided a writing prompt and will develop a writing piece at their level. There are 2 live classes and a short independent task in between. This allows us to utilize the complete writing process and develop our skills. Students will demonstrate skills by applying what is learned in their own paragraph. A notebook may be used during class. Class 1: 20-30 minutes. Meet the new students and understand their interests. Introduce the type of writing and the writing process....
With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, and editing. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events by establishing a situation and introducing a narrator and/or characters. Use dialogue and descriptions of actions, thoughts, and feelings to develop experiences and events or show the response of characters to situations. Include thoughts and feelings. Organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally, using temporal words and phrases to signal event order; provide a sense of closure. Demonstrate appropriate command of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
Work to be completed independently will vary by class and student ability. A paragraph with revisions will be due for the second class. This task may begin during the first class or completely after the first class.
Notebook and pen to write in over a few days. Microsoft Word or Google Docs are a couple of other options.
Informal feedback will be provided. For deeper feedback or rubric, please contact me.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
